To mark 2020, Studio Ghibli posted its annual New Years message to its official website. In the statement, the legendary Japanese studio looked back at the last year and let fans know it has two films in production.

"Studio Ghibli continues to work on two new films," the announcement reads, surprising fans. One of the new projects had previously been confirmed, How Do You Live? directed by the studio's co-founder, legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki. The  project was previously set to be released before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games, but has no confirmed date as of yet.

The message did not provide any details of its second film. It remains to be seen whether it's animated, a live-action film (which Studio Ghibli has done in the past), a feature-length, or if it’s a short film.

Studio Ghibli also commented on its upcoming theme park, noting that “Ghibli Park has started earnest, we hope to be able to deliver a lot of excitement again this year.”

Last month, we reported that Studio Ghibli's entire catalogue would be digitally available for purchase for the first time ever.
